This GT and Dogtooth fishing adventure consisted of 3 best mates, Daniel Risley, Greg Goess and Atha Tolios. These 3 young, enthusiast anglers got introduced to Andrea Traverso (Ocean Blue guide) world’s of popping very quickly. With Andrea’s “give no mercy and never give up attitude” it was game on for Daniel, Greg and Atha. 3 angler on the boat meant that the guys could fish comfortably by casting from the bow or the back platform.Despite a solid session of throwing poppers over the many shallow coral keys off the coast of Efate, the trio struggled to convert all the bites into landed fish with 1 GT out of 8 landed. After their beating on the 1st day, and after countless cats on day 2, ripping their poppers over the surface and through their strenuous persistence and positive attitude “to keep on working at it”, saw the trio land 4 GT out of 12. Some of the other catches included a nice sailfish plus some assortment of bycatch including some big barracudas, coral trout on popper, job fish and whilst trolling some minnows a couple of decent wahoos.

There’s plenty of big tough fish that live in Vanuatu’s clear blue water so stay tuned for the trio’s “beast” encounter with heavy metal jigging in our next trip report.
