Mark Berg is well known throughout the Australian fishing community starring in his ever-popular TV series aptly titled “Mark Berg’s Fishing Addiction”. Mark gets to travel to some of the best sportfishing destinations sharing his passion with lucky anglers chosen to join him.
Mark is one of those few who managed to merge their work with their passion and earn from it. “Fishing is one of those sports that you can never really master,” he said. “I knew from a very young age that fishing was my passion and I would continue to chase that ever-elusive ‘fish of a lifetime’ for the rest of my days.”
The Photographer
Not many “Fishing Addiction” followers know Mark spent most of his early business years as a very successful portrait, wedding and commercial photographer. His photographs and videos were well sought after. His skill in capturing that perfect moment on your special day soon became recognised throughout the south coast of New South Wales.
Mark Berg’s sphere of influence as a photographer expanded far beyond capturing the once-in-a-lifetime moments of wedding celebrations. His newfound fame as a fishing TV personality allowed him to return to his childhood passion.
Mark Berg, The Family Man
In 1997, Mark married the love of his life, Julia—and together with their three children embarked on many adventures while exploring his passion for fishing. One thing about Mark, his entrepreneurial spirit stood out. Mark and Julia juggled Mark’s TV filming commitments with running their successful seafood takeaway business which didn’t leave much time for anything else. As they say behind every good man is a great woman, which is certainly the case for Mark.
Life’s Challenges
Life isn’t always smooth-sailing. Mark and Julia had their fair share of challenges. At only six weeks, his youngest son, Austin, suffered a stroke which left him with severe brain injuries and ongoing seizures. Austin’s early childhood was difficult, to say the least. Years of Mark and Julia’s positive support and patience culminated in a successful procedure undertaken in 2019. Austin is now on the long road to recovery. From all reports, he remains positive and unwilling to let anything keep him from enjoying his life to the fullest, much like his parents.
Mark Berg’s Fishing Addiction
In 2007, Mark Berg’s Fishing Addiction began. The show was born from the overwhelming demand for his first fishing DVD which set him on a course that was entirely his own. His on-screen presence, coupled with his big personality and impeccable production skills propelled the show to success.
The premise of the show centres around Mark surprising a “Fishing Addiction” member to accompany him on an amazing fishing adventure. Not only does the lucky angler get to fish in a spectacular destination with Mark, but they’re also provided with a fishing challenge that could win them generous product prizes.
In 2010, Mark filmed his first Vanuatu show out of our Trees and Fishes Lodge. Mark hit it off immediately with our team. Subsequently, we’ve welcomed Mark back on 5 further occasions where his team have delivered great episodes each and every time. While Covid put an end to his 6th adventure we do hope to welcome him back soon.

Entrepreneurial Spirit
In 2016, Mark rounded up Aussie angling icons and influencers and started Fish Flicks. The goal of Fish Flicks is to provide a single app for anglers to view their favourite fishing shows. Classic episodes from Rex Hunt, Hook Line and Sinker, Big Angry Fish and of course Fishing Addiction are only a few of the great shows to be enjoyed on Fish Flicks.
Mark did not stop at producing entertaining and informative fishing shows. In 2017, he dived headfirst into a partnership with Rodney Kahil to form “Addict Tackle” in Tweed Heads. ‘Mark the unstoppable’ continues to push the boundaries producing his ”Addict Bros” clothing line in-between his numerous other ventures.
The Last Cast
I met Mark over a decade ago while shooting his first Vanuatu episodes for his show. Having hosted numerous television personalities over the years, including the odd interesting experience, Mark has always been a pleasure to work with. I can confidently say, you won’t meet a nicer bloke! Mark’s unshakeable passion for everything fishing, along with his devotion to his family has gained Mark the accolades and support of his many fans and followers. We look forward to seeing what Mark comes up with next.
