As all anglers are aware, knowledge, preservation and sustainability are key to preserving our pristine fisheries. On the 25th to 26th of November, at the Newcastle Exhibition and Convention Centre is your chance to have your voice heard at the Fishers for fish habitat forum 2022. Read on to learn more.
What is the Fishers for Habitat Forum?
The Fishers for fish habitat forum partnered with OZFISH, hosted by Michael Guest from Reel Action Fishing TV and Podcast. The premise of the partnership is to encourage the angling community as a whole to “Take Action” and play a crucial role in practicing sustainability and preserving the environment in which we fish.
“The Fishers for Fish Habitat forum is an opportunity for recreational fishers to gain the latest information in fish habitat rehabilitation and fisheries science, and to directly engage with other likeminded anglers, fisheries managers, and fisheries scientists.”
Ryan Lungu, OzFish Program Manager for NSW
The Forum
Speakers from the recreational community along with leading figures from fisheries research will explore a range of topics.
Topics include
- The role that recreational fishers are playing in the recovery of the endangered Macquarie Perch.
- Importance of saltmarsh restoration for fish
- Impact that fires and flood have on native fish populations, and the advancement in marine infrastructure such as living seawalls.
What you can do!
Angling as a whole is generally a solitary hobby/sport. As a community we can make a difference by listening, learning and voicing our own opinions to make a better fishery, not only for ourselves but for future generations. Tickets for the forum are free, but limited, so secure yours today. Registration closes Thursday the 10th of November. Secure your tickets HERE!
