Mercury Marine has once again made waves with its latest innovation. The company’s recent announcement of the “MERCURY MARINE LAUNCHES AVATOR 20E and 35E” electric outboards has garnered significant attention, promising a blend of performance, ease of charging, and connectivity. But what exactly does this new launch bring to the table?
Mercury Marine, a renowned name in the marine industry and a division of Brunswick Corporation, has unveiled its latest electric propulsion systems, the Avator 20e and 35e. These new models join the company’s electric lineup, which also includes the award-winning Avator 7.5e outboard that made its debut at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this year. With two more electric outboard products set to be introduced in the coming months, Mercury Marine is solidifying its position as a leader in electric propulsion.
“We’re thrilled to advance our electrification strategy and the Mercury Avator brand with the introduction of the 20e and 35e electric outboards”

Industry-first transverse flux motor technology
The Avator 20e and 35e are not just about clean energy; they are about enhancing the boating experience. With industry-first transverse flux motor technology, these outboards promise reliable and quiet power. The intuitive full-color display, ambidextrous tiller handle, and the ability to connect multiple Avator batteries for extended range and runtime make these outboards stand out. Additionally, the integrated smartcraft® connect module offers full access to the Mercury Marine app, ensuring boaters are always connected and informed.
Quiet and Efficient Performance
The Avator’s industry-first transverse flux motor technology ensures quiet power delivery. For instance, the Avator 35E electric outboard is 63% quieter than a 6hp four-stroke outboard at full throttle. This technology also contributes to faster acceleration and more efficient overall performance compared to similar products in the market.
Superior Boating Experience
The Avator outboards are designed to offer a superior boating experience. With the flexibility to easily extend range and runtime, boaters can enjoy longer trips without the worry of running out of power.
Extended Range and Runtime
Up to four of Mercury’s new 2300Wh batteries can be connected and managed through the exclusive power center. This setup not only safely merges power but also enables communication between the batteries and the outboard, allowing for single-point charging.
Safety and Reliability
The Avator 20E and 35E 2300Wh lithium-ion battery, developed in partnership with the Navico group’s Mastervolt brand, is engineered exclusively for marine applications. Tested and is IP67-rated for resistance, ensuring reliability and safety during marine operations.
Power Output
Avator 20E – This outboard generates 2200W of power at the propeller shaft. Its performance can produce acceleration similar to a 5hp four-stroke outboard.
Avator 35E – The 35E model delivers 3700W of power at the propeller shaft. Its acceleration is comparable to a Mercury 9.9hp four-stroke outboard.
Efficient Charging Solutions
The Avator smart chargers constantly monitor voltage and current to deliver a safe and effective charge. They can shut down to protect the battery if any issues arise. With the 230W Avator charger, a fully depleted 2300Wh battery can be recharged in approximately 10 hours. For those seeking faster charging, a 520W charger is available, reducing the charge time by more than 50%.
Connectivity and Control
Avator digital controls offer instant throttle response with zero hesitation, ensuring easy and safe driving. Additionally, a Mercury Smartcraft® connect module comes preinstalled, allowing boaters to wirelessly connect the outboard to the Mercury Marine app. This app provides a range of performance data points and a GPS map with visualized range estimates, enhancing trip planning.
Ambidextrous Tiller Handle
The tiller handle is designed to be used comfortably with both hands, ensuring ease of use regardless of the user’s dominant hand. This feature enhances maneuverability and control.
Commitment to Sustainability
The Avator program embodies Mercury’s commitment to sustainability. The outboards offer a boating experience with no exhaust fumes and zero direct emissions. Furthermore, each electric outboard is crafted with components that are recyclable or reusable, emphasizing Mercury Marine’s dedication to environmental responsibility.
Both the 20E and 35E models are designed to power a variety of small vessels
Both the 20E and 35E models are designed to power a variety of small vessels. This includes aluminum fishing boats, micro skiffs, rigid inflatables, tenders, and small pontoons. Their design ensures compatibility with a range of boat types, offering flexibility to boaters. The Avator outboards utilize propellers crafted from a high-strength, impact-resistant composite material. The three-blade design ensures maximum thrust, optimizing battery life with minimal noise.
